Syncopate is a four-day workshop that brings together the nation’s top tap dancers and choreographers – providing you with an exciting and challenging tap dance intensive. The workshop includes up to seven classes each day; the classes are organized by skill level and are small enough to ensure intimate instruction and interaction with our distinguished faculty. The entire Syn.co.pate staff is returning this year and will include familiar names like Nick DiNicolangelo, Ayodele Casel, Emily Shoemaker, Jason Luks, Alicia Monaco, Mary No, George “Mo Leggs” Patterson, Lauren Truby and Danny Wallace.
Solo Showcase
Syn.co.pate also offers young tap dancers the rare opportunity to participate in a Solo Showcase. The showcase is offered at no additional cost and is an excellent opportunity for tap soloists to receive feedback from not one, but three professional tap dancers in a completely constructive atmosphere. The showcase will run from approximately 5 to 9PM. Dinner will be provided the evening of the showcase and all of the workshop participants are encouraged to attend and support their peers. This is not a competition, no costumes or make up are necessary.
Other Group Activities
Other group activities will include an arcade night and an exclusive question and answer session with the faculty! A shuttle will be provided to transport the dancers to and from the hotel each day and to all Syn.co.pate sponsored events. Lunch will be provided at the studio for only $10 a day for intensive participants; and exclusive Syn.co.pate apparel will be available for sale!
Dates and Schedule
Syncopate will be held July 31st through August 3rd. Classes will start at 8:00AM on Tuesday July 31st and between 8 and 9AM on the other days. Each day, classes will end between 3:00 and 5:00PM depending on the student’s level and which evening activities are scheduled (the solo showcase will run approximately from 5 to 9PM one evening; another night, the syncopate staff and students will go to an arcade from approximately 7 to 9PM). Classes will end at 3PM on Friday, August 3rd enabling out-of-town dancers to travel home that night. The final class schedule will be posted closer to the date of the intensive. Lunch is available each day at the studio for $10 for those interested.
Location of Intensive and Hotel
The intensive is being hosted by The Dance Academy of North Jersey, located at 770 Route 15 South in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. The studio is approximately 45 minutes from Newark Airport and just 10 minutes from the hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn Rockaway (375 Mount Hope Avenue, Rockaway, New Jersey, USA 07866; Tel: (973) 328-0600). We have arranged for a special group rate of $[TBA] per day while rooms are available. The Hilton Garden Inn shares a parking lot with the Rockaway Mall, featuring plenty of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. A shuttle will be provided to transport the dancers to and from the hotel each day and to all Syn.co.pate sponsored events.
